His current research interests include ATM networks (with focus on traac control), diierent aspects related to self-similar traac (parsimonious modeling, fast generation, implications) as well as architectures and protocols for computer networks. He is a member of the IEEE, IEEE CS and ACM. His email address is [email protected]. Masters Degree in Computer Science from Stevens Institute of Technology in 1987. After that he worked for Bellcore as a Member of Technical Staa and he concentrated on conformance testing of and automated test tool development for X.25, X.75, ISDN and SS7 networks. Later he was in charge of the Internetworking and Interoperability work where he resolved many switch in-terworking problems. In 1993 he took a leave and went to the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden and in 1995 he graduated with a Ph.D. degree in telecommunications systems. He continued at Bellcore for a year and was in charge of their data analysis and traac modeling work. Today he is working at Qmetrix International where he is responsible for application of fractal traac models and methods for network systems design, planning, engineering, and management. His email address is [email protected]. CONCLUSIONS 21 for service, resource availability and fairness criteria. The conclusion therefore seems to be that in obtaining delay performance limited by optics (i.e., the propagation delay on ber) one should pay with a certain resource wastage (in the control channel). These are topics for future research. The DTS approach is applicable to other topologies as well and this is a topic for further research. Other areas of interest are related to assessing the applicability of this approach to VBR video traac, study of the eeciency in utilization of network resources, diverse trade-oos between QoS guarantees and network utilization (bandwidth, buuer sizes, etc.) as well as utilization of better models for worst-case description of traac. The performance achieved by the additional complexity introduced with such control mechanisms versus schemes relying solely on statistical guarantees is also a topic worth exploring. In light of recent studies indicating the self-similar nature of VBR video traac and data traac on packet based networks, the design of eecient traf-c management and congestion control mechanisms for broadband networks must take such characteristics into account. Methods and analytical results need to be further developed before one can use self-similar traac descriptors for policing functions and for ensuring fairness without overly constraining a source which is inherently bursty and …

Dynamic time sharing: a new approach for congestion management
A new approach for bandwidth allocation and congestion control is reported in this paper, which is of the Rate Controlled admission with Priority Scheduling service type. It is called Dynamic Time Sharing (DTS), because of the dynamic nature of the procedure for resource partitioning to allocate and guarantee a required bandwidth for every traffic class. This approach is based on guaranteeing s...
متن کاملA New Framework for Congestion Management with Exact Modeling of Impacting Factors
Congestion in the transmission lines is one of the technical problems that appear particularly in the deregulated environment. The voltage stability issue gets more important because of heavy loading in this environment. The main factor causing instability is the inability of the power system to meet the demand for reactive power. This paper presents a new approach for alleviation congestion re...
متن کاملRide Sharing and Dynamic Networks Analysis
The potential of an efficient ride-sharing scheme to significantly reduce traffic congestion, lower emission level and drivers’ stress, as well as facilitating the introduction of smart cities has been widely demonstrated in recent years [1]. Furthermore, ride sharing can be implemented within a sound economic regime through the involvement of commercial services that creates a win-win for all ...
متن کاملAn Improvement over Random Early Detection Algorithm: A Self-Tuning Approach
Random Early Detection (RED) is one of the most commonly used Active Queue Management (AQM) algorithms that is recommended by IETF for deployment in the network. Although RED provides low average queuing delay and high throughput at the same time, but effectiveness of RED is highly sensitive to the RED parameters setting. As network condition varies largely, setting RED's parameters with fixed ...

This paper presents a new approach for dynamic spectrum management for heterogeneous wireless devices. Local congestion degrades the reliability of wireless applications in the License Exempt bands. This leads to the research questions: (1) how to realize equal spectrum sharing between dissimilar systems, and (2) how to improve the collective spectrum efficiency. A solution is in dynamic distri...
متن کاملCongestion Status Identification Using Slack Based Models in Data Envelopment Analysis
Congestion is a wasteful stage of the production process where outputs are reduced due to excessive amount of inputs. There are several approaches in data envelopment analysis (DEA) literatures to treat congestion. The concept of strong and weak congestion first developed by Tone and Sahoo [Tone, K., Sahoo, B.K., 2004. Degree of scale economies and congestion: A unified DEA approach. European J...
